Lina Khan is amazing I’m so happy if we can get her to join NYC. Let’s go!

Holy shit, hard to think of someone I would more want on my team. Happy for NYC, and jealous.

Is the transition team just a temporary group or will she be a permanent member of his administration?

The woman who BLOCKED Mega Mergers from Happening and Telecom Companies from STEALING from People? This is HORRIBLE TERRIBLE NEWS! For Rich People!

The stock market will never recover from this certainty not by 4 pm today!

Oh, it’s up today? Weird.

If Biden hadn’t been a spineless piece of crap she could have really brought down the hammer.

But just like with prosecuting Trump Biden didn’t want to ruffle feathers….

OMG! I feel like we went from having no hope to having a fighting chance in one night

I can’t help but hear her name like a wrestler’s in my head.

“And in this corner, former chair of the FTC, it’s LINA KHAAAN!”

wish she’d had the chance to bash more corporate skulls.

There are lots of corporate heads to crack in NYC assuming she has a permanent position.

Damn that’s a heavy hitter. Mamdani and his team are not going to fuck around. With people like that on his side, I think everyone got their answer to their question “does mayor have that kind of power”? I bet he fucking does.

I’m not sure I like this. It feels like Khan can make bigger impact elsewhere than just NYC. I mean, sure, the current administration isn’t exactly a welcoming environment for her, but Khan could literally make the change we are looking for federally.

This keeps her in the game and gives her an opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of her policies on a small scale where differences can often be felt a lot faster. That gives her a much better chance to get back into a position where she’s holding the keys at the federal level down the line.

Take the win, bud.

Is she working on anything else more important? Isn’t like she was working for the federal governments now and left fpr NY.

I mean I guess you’re right. I just envisioned her doing big things, and NYC feels like small potatoes

NYC is almost a small country unto itself, in some ways. About the only thing she could have larger impact on, in a governmental position, would be at the state level… namely in NY or California (possibly Texas, but that would never happen).

NY financial regulations can have global impacts. Not entirely related, but I’m in Brazil and our company have to complain with SOX and other American regulations. So being in NY is not even close to any other American city.

Definitely. If New York City (just the city) were to secede from the United States, it would be the 101st largest nation in the world; almost as big as Switzerland, and bigger than New Zealand, bigger than Singapore, and bigger than every Nordic country except Sweden. They can really throw their weight around.

And as a part of the US, they can honestly do even more. Most companies don’t want to have a “New York” version of their product and an “all the other states” version, so they’re pretty likely to fall in line with whatever New York asks for. Especially if California follows suit; that’s a sixth of the US’s population in just those two jurisdictions.

California is the fourth or fifth largest economy in the world.

One of the few bright spots from Biden’s admin

Seriously. Hasan got her on stream last night.

She is someone I’d like to see in the 2028 Democratic primary.

She was born in the UK, so we’ll have to change that law before she can run for president. It seems like some of our best candidates were born elsewhere, and since rules don’t matter anymore I’m sure we’ll see this changed somewhat soon. But probably not before 2028.

She was born in the UK

Ehh shit. She was literally the *only* member of the entire Biden cabinet worth talking about.

She can still do a lot of good here! She already is. I’m one of the people who would love to see AOC as president, but would rather have her become a New York senator.

If she’s president she gets to do the job for 8 years, but if she’s a senator she can stay in for decades. It seems like people put too much importance on the executive branch. It’s powerful, as we have seen, but it’s not everything.

Yeah I think AOC is a better candidate for President.

Not that she wouldn’t dunk Senate, but there aren’t many others who could win at a national level as President. Its also clear that Bernie has been grooming/ training/ getting ready to pass the reigns (their end oligarchy tour).

Schumer is one of the least popular politicians in the country, and there are many great candidates in NY for that spot (for example, Lina Kahn, or perhaps even Mamdani).

We really don’t have as deep a bench for President as we do for the NY senate.

You can be born in a foreign country and still run for president. Just need to have a parent that is a US citizen to have birthright citizenship.
