What the actual fuck. So uh, realistically what can someone do in this scenario? They marched innocent people out of their homes naked, they ransacked every apartment indiscriminately, they presented no warrants, they stole personal property. These people just had their lives completely flipped upside down for the crime of living in a building with another tenant that maybe shouldn’t be in the country??
This shit is so unacceptable.

In real reality, for these people? Nothing. The building was in disrepair, so feds knew it was low income folks. They don’t have a lawyer on speed dial.
Fascism is coupled tightly with capitalism, in the sense of hierarchies of money/capital & money’s utility being a foil to the state’s power. If you have enough money, you can evade most issues in a fascist world, especially if you are not part of the out group. If you are in the out group, you’d need a lot of money, even on a clear cut case.
People like Schindler and Paul Rusesabagina were successful business men. Their connections to the regime and capital accrued allowed them to save people. Most couldn’t save themselves. How do you save a group? Have a bunch of money. How do you get money? Exploit the situation (and perhaps, the people).

due process. no warrants. this is what you get. where do you live. they say they think someone somewhere where you live is a criminal and they can knock down all the doors and take all the people and shit. If it makes you feel any better, they have done this before. And this time the people in charge are idiots. Look up Black Wall Street, the firebombing of MOVE headquarters, killing of Fred Hampton, all that stuff. This is not new. It used to be this way a lot of the time. It’s just in a new form now, more systematic, with a ton of extra strengths and a few new weaknesses, compared to the way it came before. It’s like Pennywise. I have no idea how this time will shake out, I am afraid a little bit. But it is beatable. My concern is actually a lot more about what is going to come after, than it is that all this shit show in its current setup is indestructible.

It’s frustrating because back in August, when ICE went into DC people in Chicago were doing the whole anime boy butterfly meme going. “Is this MaRSHall law? What’s happening to America?” It was frustrating they ignored Los Angeles from June and didn’t know about martial. It’s frustrating because Chicago had three fucking months to prepare and learn and they didn’t. It’s still frustrating because we in LA keep reaching out to different activists to help there and hear nothing back. They have some excellent moments but they are not at all organized.
edit: I think the worst part of this story is he went back to sleep. Didn’t know to call rapid response. Didn’t have a clue about reaching out to community defense. Just was like… welp. Zzz. Smgdh.
