Japanese psychedelic crust punk from 1992. This one features vocalist Crow from Japanese legends, Crow. Really cool psych instrumentals blending into metallic crust punk. An album that needed a reissue forever and finally got one a few years ago. CRUST PUNK IS BEST PUNK
Trent has been one my favorite artists since I was a little shit. It’s a shame modernity has ruined the pop star. It’s so fake now. You used to have to do something, even if you were strung out on heroin.
The album that started the phenomenon. It’s certainly a fantastic numetal icon. I love it after all these years, even if I don’t care for the band currently. There was definitely something going on here, and Iowa.
This is the second Business album originally released in 1985. Mine is a reissue from like 10 or so years ago. The Business formed in 1979 and were part of the first wave of the Oi! scene which was a working class offshoot of the 70s UK punk scene. These guys had a great sense of melody in their stuff but still retaining the punk edge of it. They even covered Crass’ “Do They Owe Us A Living?”along with writing a tune proclaiming their punk ties, “Loud Proud And Punk”. I also have an early tracks compilation, their first album “Suburban Rebels”, and third record “Welcome To The Real World”. This bad was super important to teenage me and I can sing along with all the words to all these records. The Business fucking rule. RIP Micky Fitz. PUT IT ALL UP IN YOUR EARHOLES!
Lip Cream was a hardcore punk band from Tokyo. This is the first proper Lip Cream studio album originally released in 1986. All of their albums (and the first self released tape) were finally reissued last year by Relapse records after being out of print forever. So fucking happy to finally own these legendary pieces of Japanese punk history. I walked into my local record store and saw them and knew I had to grab all the stuff. Cost me $160 but well worth it! I had a couple of bootleg presses of some of the stuff so nice to upgrade those to official pressings. If you’ve never heard Lip Cream, I highly recommend them to anyone who loves punk/hardcore. Maybe the most underrated post Chi Deftones album? Diamond Eyes is well regarded. Regardless, I’m on a dead artist within my life kick and Chi is up. RIP Chi.

Say what you will about Metallica, but you can’t deny this album and the three before it. Even without Cliff it’s an eternal banger. Master may always be my favorite, but this album has its angst, especially “Dyers Eve.”
Bleak and fucking crushing death doom. Spectral Voice has 3 of the 4 members of Blood Incantation, the lone exception being the drummer. This is their debut full length that was released in 2017. Blood Incantation gets all the hype but I think Spectral is the better band. Denver on top always! If you haven’t heard it, take a trip to THRESHOLDS BEYOND
This one is the fourth Spirit album released in 1970. Psych/prog goodness. Spirit is pretty well known for allegations that Led Zeppelin stole “Stairway To Heaven” from their song “Taurus” off of their first self titled album after opening for them on an American tour in ‘68. I have the first four Spirit records and they’re all really good but I don’t think I’m that interested in anything beyond this record.

1973 greatest hits release by one of the most underrated bands in fucking history (at least where I’m from). If you’ve never heard Slade you’ve probably heard Quiet Riot whose breakthrough hit “Cum On Feel The Noize” was just a worse cover of a Slade song. It worked so well for QR that they tried it again by covering “Mama Weer All Crazee Now”. I will buy any Slade record I come across that I do not already own. Slade fucking rules. LISTEN
Ha, I guess this is now a classic album… Well shit. This was the album that turned me onto Trivium. To this day it’s still one of my favorite metalcore albums. The perfect amount of heavy, groove, and angst. My favorite track has always been “A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation.”
Superheroines were part of the first wave L.A. deathrock scene along with Christian Death, 45 Grave and Kommunity FK. They formed in ‘81 and this record came out in ‘82. Notably the band features Eva O who would go on to not only be in Christian Death, but marry lead singer Rozz Williams. This record fucking RULES! A little bit like 45 grave with more of a heavy metal influence and dramatic as fuck vocals. My copy is a 2014 reissue by Cleopatra on Red Vinyl. If you wanna check it out, GO HERE
I’m in the market for a new turntable, and I was wondering if anyone here has experience with either of the models listed in the title. Both come the same cartridge stock (AT VM95E) so the sound quality should be similar enough. I was mostly wondering if there’s some detail I’m not aware of that’s different between these two turntables. Currently I’m gravitating towards the Teac since it’s a tiny bit cheaper (just a 10€ difference) and I like the look of it more, although they’re so similar that they could both come from the same factory TBH
Second Castle Rat record. Great doomy heavy metal. I kinda slept on this band until I saw them live in September. That was super stupid of me. Great riffs. Moody atmosphere. Vocals are killer. Honorable mention on my top records of the year list. CHECK IT OUT!

Oh what an album! I’m sure most fans of BTBAM would say Colors I is better, but I’m not most BTBAM fans. This is BTBAM at their most mature, experimental, and relevant. The sociological critique has never been more true. This album is bleak, dire, and angry, but also hopeful and optimistic. A top 20 album for me and a frisson machine.
Probably the most important album in the catalog. If you’re a fan of metal and especially progressive music this is an essential listen. I can’t emphasize enough how fantastic this album is, it’s a masterpiece. I say all that and it’s still not my favorite BTBAM album.
I really like the pivotal albums in a bands discography, the blend point between two stylistic areas, recognizably that band, but also signaling a potentially very different version of that band in the future.
The 3rd studio album (2005) from Between the Buried and Me. Not my favorite BTBAM album, but still a certified banger and it certainly still holds up. “Selkies: The Endless Obsession,” “Roboturner,” and “Backwards Marathon” are my favorites from the album.
First Slayer album from 1983. My copy is a recent reissue on black and red split vinyl. My personal favorite of their releases. Really dig how it has a little bit of thrash creeping in but is mostly just a heavy metal record. A band I was in once tried to cover “Die By The Sword” but we sucked and could never get it right 🤣. If you haven’t yet, die by the sword!
UK hardcore punk/crust formed in the early 80s. This release is from 1989 and by that point they had really started to show a lot more metal influence. For me, the best Concrete Sox release. If you haven’t heard it, be sure to crank it up loud!
Getting into vinyl is as much about nostalgia as it is about having a physical artifact, or having something to pass on to my kids, or the audio quality, for me.
This entire album is fantastic, but side B in particular is full of gems. Deeper Understanding sounds like it could be describing 2025, and Rocket’s Tail is insane; just this swirling semi-chaotic a-capella rant that transforms into an almost choral aria before it takes off in the. Most. Satisfying. Way. Making the absolute most of fretless bass and the Bulgarka Trio.
When I was a post hardcore kid and still icked out by whatever I thought jazz was back then, I could still jam to Chameleon on my discman. Re-listening years later and on vinyl, I have really come to love Watermelon Man.
One of the best Immortal albums. Longer songs, crazy riffs and amazing cover art. They definitely leveled up with this release. Seemed appropriate given that my hometown finally got our first real snow this winter. If you’ve never heard it do yourself a favor HERE
