I just bought my first air compressor. The manual says to turn the regulator all the way down when you turn the compressor on and then to turn it up when you want to use the air but it doesn’t say how high. 

LTT is incredibly corporate (+ a private jet??), Mrwhosetheboss is super AI-pilled (generated “hand painted” wallpaper of him and wife? Really?), Marques has his own controversies (e.g. exceeding highway speeds in a school zone, wallpaper app cashgrab, etc. + he does not seem to have any concept of value or budget), Gamers Nexus has their own problems (e.g. they claimed how Matrix could be Israeli spyware, with the source being a poorly received Reddit comment), etc.

I just wonder. If you can openly carry a firearm. Could you not also openly carry a sword? Bow and arrow?

I have started drinking tart cherry juice and eating a kiwi before bed. The theory being that kiwi’s have serotonin and tart cherry juice has melatonin that help you sleep. Seems to be working for me. It just seems weird to me that they have serotonin and melatonin. I’m also wondering what other hormones can you get from plants?

In an attempt to boost activity I’ve tried to answer a few questions in this, and similar communities. Looking for an old comment, I found out that a bunch of posts I’d answered are now *Permanently Deleted*, and what’s that about? If they’re LLM slop there’s enough of it I’d rather just block the community so as to not waste any time.

Background: I was recently doomscrolling the All page when I found a post bashing a specific topic that’s somewhat personal to me. It was obvious that the OP was making a rage post, but gave it a read. I responded with my two sense countering OP’s perspective (in what I thought was a respectful manner). Admittedly, I did not read the rules of the community I posted in, but ive found if your civil most people will deal with you in good faith. Apparently that community is not a place that disagreement to the perspective OP expressed is tolerated. I had my post deleted and was banned from the community for my comment (I know its not hard to dredge up the details, but don’t want to name names cause that’s not really the point).

Lots of programming languages have their own package manager, separate from the distribution or OS package manager.

It doesn’t even have to be that the message is bad or completely objective and propaganda fuelled, it could just be its often incredibly recited, copied and pasted or just a blatantly obvious good lesson that you are completely aware of.

I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about using satellites for data processing lately. The benefit is better energy generation as I have understood it. But isn’t there a problem in that satelites are bad at expelling excess heat, since they can only do so passively?

It never really occurred to me I might just not have those specific social skills nailed down. 😅 Because irl, I have plenty of ease chatting people up and making new friends. Same with dating or professional networking, it all comes naturally in person.

I am rewatching The Little Mermaid and during the scene where prince Eric’s ship is hit by a storm, you can see some shorter shots of the sea beneath its surface and it looks pretty calm, while the surface is absolutely ravaged by the storm.

I assume one becomes a chef because they have a love for cooking and food and the artistry involved, but I can’t think of anything more eroding to that love of the craft than the kind of working day I see chefs and other kitchen staff go through. Europe’s experiencing the longest hot war since World War II. The war in the Gulf seems to be escalating as we speak. Extremism has been on the rise for years now. Is it actually getting worse or is it simply the fact that we can access information from all four corners of the world so easily as never before?

How is it that we managed to abolish slavery? How do we have an age of consent? How do we have minimum wage? Everyone in power is evil and hates us, but why are women still allowed to vote? How come minimum wage hasn’t lowered or been removed entirely?

I typically go with 20%, but that’s just a guess.

House of Cards (Final Season) sucks so much (especially the ending!) because of Kevin Spacey having to leave the show, so they rewrote the script saying his character passed away shifting the PoV into Robin Wright’s character (Claire Underwood), but the execution is poor. It felt rushed and the ratings plummeted, the final episode in particular has the worst reviews on IMDb since the ending is just garbage, like WTF was that all about?!

We all have a relationship to at least one language. We are monolingual, bilingual, multilingual; we strive for objectivity or expressiveness. Is language diversity good? or does it create more linguistic barriers? Does different languages change our perception of reality, or does study make us see clearly? Does world languages help bring us together, or make it easier for might to manipulate us all?

Mine is “I have donkeybrains”. Not many people challenge this assertion.

I currently have no opportunity to upgrade my laptop, but I need to perform resource-intensive tasks on it. The real bottlenecks are the CPU (Ryzen 3250U 2,6GHz) and the RAM (8GB DDR4). The core problem is the RAM amount. 8GB is nothing, and 2,3 of it is statically reserved by the integrated GPU, while GPU does not actually matter for my needs, so I have only 5,7GB available no matter what. I also think that the CPU is actual junk. But as I said, cannot upgrade rn, but need some performance.

I have virtually zero knowledge of The Odyssey as a Greek mythology, save for a few recognisable names like the Helen of Troy, the Trojan War etc. I do want to enjoy the movie to its fullest, and if learning about the plot material is essential to it, then so be it. Is there a good resource giving a summarized version of the plot enough to understand the film? If so, I would really appreciate it if you shared it here.

I’ve noticed that when loading lemmy while logged in takes at least 10 seconds, often more, on both mobile and desktop, on two different instances. This includes when I’m automatically logged in, so I’d think there aren’t any complicated handshakes or anything that need to be made.

As you can see, I’m on mbin, originally because it has the goal of being a network that could be used to access a number of other networks - definitely Lemmy, and Mastodon was promised at some point but I don’t think that ever happened - and development doesn’t seem to be going further.

I work at a tobacco shop. And after they said I blown through a stop sign. When asked when drinking I said no. Then he said I smelled, and I quote, “of something suspicious”. I get cops get their paycheck for tickets and such but seriously has it really gotten this bad that for a ticket they try to make it something bigger? and ignoring my rights?

I really want to know. I could go off on a diatribe or soap box it. But I really don’t get or who benefits. I think it’s just the US government fucking us again. I stand with Iran because we had no reason to hit them in the first place. But people are dieing, world hates America now more than ever, prices are at a breaking point and so on and so forth. But really what do we gain or lose that we haven’t already.

So Latin spread pretty well across Europe, being the basis of almost every language there, but how come it didn’t take as strong a hold in the Middle East? It’s not as if the Romans were never there, and they lingered there far longer than they did in Europe. Was it just a matter of a stronger preexisting culture, or did the Arabs have something to do with it? What happened here?

Reason I ask is because my cousin came home and just the books were like 2 to 3k alone.

I remember when I was growing up (decades ago), my dad instilled in me to never put a magnet up to a computer or TV because they would cause irreparable damage to the screen. While I’m sure that SOMEWHERE out in the world there’s a magnet strong enough to cause damage if given enough time or whatever, but in terms of what I can buy from a store, would it be safe to keep my cell phone and a magnet (say, one of those ‘clicking’ fidget toys with half a dozen or so small magnets) in the same pocket, or am I just asking for trouble?

I mean, both sites have made doxxes, lolcowed people and raided places, hadn’t they?

I have a collection of files from the late ´90s and early ´00s. Many of them are .JPG, .MP3, .WAV, instead of .jpg, .mp3, and .wav. Why was that the norm at the time? I usually just change the extension myself.

I will be entering the US in October to work for about a year and half as a visiting researcher. I will be accompanied by my partner and his two children.

…so why are people so up in arms against bans and restrictions on children having access to social media, where they have even less oversight and can do so themselves?
