They have their own private yachts. They commute to the yachts intermittently via helicopter. The yachts have some level of ECM and anti drone security measures.

They stay out of contested waters, presumably.

I had the sad realization, little over ten years ago now, that joining the Somali pirates for fun and … probably not profit … would see me branded a traitor and my family likely cut-off from any benefits my service earned, but I’m just that much less attached to this flesh-sack than your average bear, ya know?

If you wonder how I could muse about going that stupidly overboard, what they did to Eric Harroun made it clear that even trying to go along with our empire’s, let alone freedom’s, interests without prior approval, was no longer an option.

Big Money wants to control your exact manner of armed death, but indiscriminantly clearing mine-fields is still on-the table, so far. If we can trick Big Money’s kids into joining-in, so much the better.
